A Little About Concrete and Marble Polishing

Today, professionally polished concrete and marble floors are coveted for their clean, low maintenance finish, durability and reflective high gloss finish. Concrete polishing done properly can resemble marble flooring. Where once concrete floors were reserved for industrial areas, they are becoming more popular in homes and commercial designs. You not only find concrete floors in industrial applications, but also big box-retailers, churches, airports, malls, and convention halls to name a few. Concrete floors are extremely durable and well known for their easy maintenance. This is one of the key reasons many warehouses and retail facilities choose polished concrete. Not only are polished concrete floors easy to clean, they hold up well to heavy forklift and foot traffic. We have found that many architects, designers and contractors are now specifying concrete as a green and earth friendly building material. Concrete polishing is a multi-step process where the customer can choose the level of shine from a satin finish to high gloss. Polished concrete done properly is highly reflective and can resemble marble or granite flooring by applying stain during the polishing process. Phenomenal results can also be obtained for marble polishing . Polishing concrete is similar to polishing stone or wood where heavy-duty polishing equipment machines are used with progressively finer diamond impregnated disks. Our experienced polishing crews know when to switch to the next-finer grit by observing the floor surface and the amount of material being removed. With the growth in sustainable building, concrete being sustainable, contributes toward achieving LEED certification. The decorative concrete industry has developed products that not only fit the “green” building trend, but also gives designers, architects and homeowners more options in incorporating design and color elements in their projects.
